Chelsea Ladies will bid to reach a third straight Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley when they travel to Birmingham City Ladies for tonight semi-final.
Birmingham, who stunned holders Arsenal in March’s quarter-finals, previously beat Chelsea to win the 2012 final.
Chelsea, who thrashed Sunderland 5-1 in the last eight, hope to go one better than 2016’s Wembley loss to Arsenal.
The two sides, who both play in Women’s Super League One, have each lifted the FA Cup once before in their history.
The winner will face either reigning league champions Manchester City or fellow-top-flight side Liverpool in the final on Saturday, 13 May.
Birmingham City Ladies goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley told BBC Midlands Today:
“We no longer see ourselves as the underdogs. We know we can beat any team in the FA Cup. To reach Wembley would be a dream come true for all the girls.
“The other teams don’t know a lot about us, which can play to our strength. We have got new players and teams might not know much about them. That could be a great weapon to us.
“Chelsea have got some class players, internationals from all over the world. But we know we can perform against them. We know we can nullify their strengths.”
Chelsea Ladies midfielder Katie Chapman:
“It’s a massive game. Everyone wants to play in an FA Cup final. For us, having the achievement of making two finals, we want to be there again.
“We’ve got to have that in our mind, last year’s defeat against Arsenal, and make sure we’re there again this year. We’re really prepared. We’ve had a great pre-season.
“It is always a tough, physical game when we go to Birmingham. We’ve got to concentrate on what we’re doing, our roles and our formation, and if we do everything right and stick to the game plan then I think we’ll get a result there.”
This match will be live tonight at 9:10 pm only here at Trafalgar Sports Bar Hongkong.
